Job Overview
Provide technical evaluations and advice, solve problems, and coordinate technical work in support of the commissioning, operation, and maintenance of facilities.
Receive assignments from the Supervisor while identifying potential problems and opportunities within assigned systems.
Assess issues, recommend whether they require further investigation or should be abandoned, and discuss approved solutions with section heads, shift supervisors, AECL, Head Office specialists, designers, and external organizations.
Prepare submissions including cost justifications and financial evaluations, recommend adoption of proposals, and prepare detailed engineering documentation including equipment specifications, calculations, installation, testing, operating, and maintenance procedures.
Submit documentation for approval by applicable internal and external organizations.
Coordinate installations, implementation activities, staff instruction, field training, and operating procedures.
Monitor maintenance and operating issues, implement improvements, and collaborate with departments and organizations including CGE, B&W Canada, AECL, and Technology groups.
Maintain and update departmental procedures, ensuring compliance with operating licences, policies, safety standards, and best practices.
Prepare technical reports, studies, investigations, presentations, and responses to external requests.
Review technical proposals, prepare purchasing specifications, support procurement activities, recommend spare parts, and assist with research and development programs to improve equipment reliability and system performance.
Support budget preparation, monitor variances, and periodically supervise staff by assigning work, providing technical direction, and reviewing completed activities.
Qualifications
Requires a Mechanical or Electrical Engineering Degree, or equivalent education.
Requires experience in the design, development, commissioning, operation, or maintenance of nuclear facilities, nuclear components, or comparable industrial systems.
Requires the ability to solve technical problems, provide engineering guidance, conduct developmental and economic evaluations, and support nuclear facility operations.
Requires over 6 to 8 years of relevant experience.
Currently holds the DE qualification 33685.
