Senior Java Developer

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Java Developer to join our client’s team in Toronto. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience in Java development, messaging technologies, Spring, JVM performance optimization, and build/deployment tools.

Experience working within Capital Markets and Risk environments will be considered a strong advantage.

Required Technical Experience

7+ years of hands-on Java development experience, with strong knowledge of:
Core Java
Java Collections
Multithreading and concurrency
Exception handling
Concurrent programming concepts
4+ years of experience with messaging technologies, including Solace and/or JMS.
Practical experience with Spring Framework, particularly Dependency Injection.
Good understanding and application of software design patterns.
Strong knowledge of JVM performance tuning and monitoring, with experience using tools such as:
Java Mission Control (JMC)
JConsole
VisualVM
Java Flight Recorder
YourKit
Or comparable JVM profiling/performance tools
Understanding of Garbage Collection (GC) behavior and thread statistics for JVM troubleshooting and performance analysis.
Experience with build and CI/CD-related tools, including:
Maven
Jenkins
Nexus
GitHub — basic working knowledge

Additional / Nice-to-Have Skills

The following skills are preferred but not mandatory:

Linux & Scripting

Basic Linux command-line knowledge.
Ability to work with files and review application/system logs.
Familiarity with log monitoring and basic scripting concepts.

Database

Basic understanding of SQL.
Ability to write and work with fundamental SQL queries.

Job Scheduling

Familiarity with enterprise scheduling tools such as Geneos, Control-M (Ctrl-M), or similar scheduling platforms.

Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly convey technical information and collaborate effectively with team members and stakeholders.
Adaptability and willingness to learn, particularly given the breadth and complexity of the platform.

Ideal Candidate Profile

The successful candidate will be a seasoned Java professional who can work effectively in a complex enterprise environment, troubleshoot application and JVM-level issues, and collaborate with technical and business stakeholders. Experience in Capital Markets and Risk is highly desirable, along with the ability to quickly understand a broad technology platform and its associated business domain.
