Hiring: Senior Trainer

Location: Edmonton, Alberta, Onsite (5 days a week in office)

Duration: August 3, 2026 – July 31, 2027

Hourly Rate: $75/hour – $90/hour (based on experience)

The 1GX Centre of Excellence (CoE) supports the Government of Alberta’s enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution, 1GX, which enables key functions including human capital, supply chain, financial and treasury management. Reporting to the Manager, 1GX Business Excellence – Communications, OCM, and Training, this role leads government-wide 1GX training and outreach by defining role-based training strategy and delivery approaches for project and operational initiatives based on validated stakeholder learning needs. The role designs, develops, and facilitates complex live and online learning solutions, and owns training quality, consistency, and currency through established standards, review and approval cycles, and content maintenance processes. This role defines evaluation and continuous improvement activities, uses feedback and performance insights to drive prioritized updates, and provides guidance to junior trainers and contributors to support consistent delivery and learner outcomes. The role leverages approved digital, collaboration, and AI-enabled tools in alignment with Government of Alberta policies and standards.

 

Responsibilities:

Lead government-wide 1GX training initiatives by defining role-based training strategies, scope, delivery approach (instructor-led, virtual, blended, self-paced), and success measures aligned to business outcomes.
Own end-to-end design, development, and delivery of complex, multi-audience learning solutions, ensuring training materials meet established templates, accessibility considerations, and 1GX standards.
Partner with program leadership, business process owners, SMEs, vendors, and the 1GX Change Network to validate learning needs, confirm readiness (content, environments, job aids), and align deployment timing.
Establish and enforce training governance including intake/prioritization, review and approval cycles, quality assurance, version control, and maintenance processes to ensure training content remains accurate and current as 1GX processes and releases evolve.
Define evaluation and continuous improvement approach (e.g., attendance, learner feedback, knowledge checks, performance insights), analyze themes, and drive prioritized updates to training and supporting materials.
Provide coaching and mentorship to junior trainers and contributors, supporting consistent delivery, learner support practices, and high-quality training artifacts.
Leverage approved digital, collaboration, and AI-enabled tools to improve content development, delivery, stakeholder engagement, and reporting, in alignment with Government of Alberta policies and standards.

 

Must Haves:

University graduation in a related field (such as Adult Education, Instructional Design, Business Administration or related) plus four (4) years progressively responsible related experience OR diploma in a related field and a minimum six (6) years of progressively responsible work experience.
Clear verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group.
The ability to manage multiple projects at one time and to prioritize tasks to ensure deadlines are met.
The ability to work with and interact professional with a diverse group.
Minimum 4 years demonstrated knowledge of training needs analyses and competency development frameworks.
Minimum 6 years’ experience developing and teaching training materials, including developing computer-based training modules/training videos.
Minimum 4 years’ experience leading curriculum design projects from inception to completion.
Minimum 4 years’ experience with a variety of learning/training concepts and principles, including knowledge of adult learning techniques.
Minimum 4 years’ professional experience in learning and development.

 

Preferred Skills:

Minimum 4 years’ advanced level proficiency with MS Office Tools, Learning Management Systems (LMS), and other related training software. For example, need to work with templates and create new templates.
Minimum 4 years demonstrated experience with training evaluation methods including formative and summative evaluation approaches.
Minimum 4 years’ experience developing and implementing effective training plans.
Minimum 4 years’ experience developing computer-based training videos using Adobe Captivate or Articulate Storyline or equivalent.
Minimum 4 years’ experience with Digital Adoption Tools (e.g., WalkMe) for creating in-application guidance and support.
Minimum 4 years’ working knowledge of SAP applications is an asset.
