Position Overview

Reporting to the Director, Data and Records Governance, the Senior Data Governance Consultant plays a key role in supporting the implementation of the Data & Records Governance Policy. This role enables data ownership, stewardship, and governance practices across business units, contributing to the organization’s data strategy and compliance objectives. The Senior Analyst partners with business, technology, and governance stakeholders to ensure data assets are documented, classified, and managed in accordance with policy requirements.

Responsibilities

 

Support identification and documentation of Data Owners, Data Stewards, and Critical Data Elements (CDEs) to ensure clear accountability and facilitate effective data governance.
Assist in the implementation of data standards, classification, handling requirements, metadata, and lineage documentation, supporting consistent application of governance practices across business units.
Partner with business units to embed governance practices and support population and maintenance of the enterprise data catalog.
Contribute to data lifecycle management activities, including creation, usage, retention, and disposal, ensuring alignment with policy and regulatory requirements.
Support DCAM maturity tracking and improvement initiatives, providing input and documentation to advance organizational data governance capabilities.
Prepare and maintain materials for governance forums, enabling effective communication and decision-making.
Collaborate with stakeholders to monitor data quality, identify issues, and support resolution efforts.
Maintain structured documentation of risks, controls, and ownership to ensure visibility and compliance.
Foster engagement and adoption of data governance practices, promoting data literacy and stewardship across business units.

Qualifications

Education/Experience

 

Bachelor’s degree in Information Management, Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related field.
5–7 years in data governance or data management (experience with data catalog tools preferred).

Specific Knowledge & Skills (not Preferred Or An Asset)

 

Strong understanding of data governance frameworks, data lifecycle management, and stewardship concepts.
Experience with data catalog tools, metadata management, and lineage documentation.
Effective stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
Analytical and reporting skills; ability to prepare materials for governance forums.
Familiarity with regulatory and compliance requirements and data classification practices.

Job Specific Competencies

 

The base salary range for this position is between $84,000 – $126,000 dependent on relevant experience.
