About the Opportunity
We are seeking skilled and motivated professionals to support the Pickering Safe Storage Project. This role is ideal for individuals with strong technical expertise in engineering and fire protection who want to contribute to the safety, compliance, and operational readiness of a major nuclear facility.
As a Senior Technical Officer / Engineer, you will provide technical guidance, lead problem-solving activities, support regulatory compliance, and participate in developing and improving fire protection strategies across the site.
What You’ll Do
🔥 Fire Protection & Compliance
Ensure compliance with CSA N293, CSA N393, NFPA codes, and site licensing conditions.
Provide guidance on fire hazard assessments, fire response equipment lifecycle, PPE, and fire response protocols.
Interpret requirements from federal/provincial regulations, codes, and OPG procedures.
Ensure operational readiness of all fire protection systems and initiate compensatory measures when needed.
🛠️ Technical & Operational Support
Perform technical evaluations and resolve complex issues across multiple work areas.
Prepare studies, technical reports, proposals, and recommendations.
Assist with developing procurement specifications and provide field installation support.
Drive improvements in processes, systems, and equipment performance.
📊 Risk & Program Management
Support Fire Hazard Assessments and Fire Safe Shutdown Analysis.
Develop fire scenario response plans aligned with licensing and safety requirements.
Monitor site risk trends and recommend protocol updates as needed.
Contribute to developing and updating standards, procedures, and operating instructions.
🤝 Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
Support internal groups and liaise with external emergency response organizations.
Ensure CNSC correspondence meets high standards and that action items are properly addressed.
Develop service delivery solutions to enhance fire protection effectiveness across the station.
What You Bring
A 4‑year engineering degree or equivalent education.
Strong background in fire protection engineering and facility operations.
Knowledge of:
Fire Hazard Assessments
Fire Safe Shutdown Assessments
National Building Code of Canada
National Fire Code of Canada
CSA N293 & CSA N393
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong analytical, evaluation, and problem‑solving capabilities.
