Job Overview
This posting is for a Systems Engineer in the PNGS Refurbishment Engineering Department.
A Systems Engineer is accountable for the health, reliability, and performance of assigned plant systems, ensuring safe and efficient operation through proactive monitoring, troubleshooting, maintenance support, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement.
Job Responsibilities, Duties, and Key Accountabilities
Serve as the primary technical expert and owner for assigned plant systems, maintaining up-to-date knowledge and documentation of system design, operation, and performance.
Monitor system health using performance indicators, trending, and surveillance data.
Analyze system data to detect, diagnose, and resolve issues proactively, while preparing and presenting regular system health reports.
Investigate abnormal system behaviors, equipment failures, and operational events.
Lead root cause analyses, develop corrective actions, and support emergency or off-normal event response.
Collaborate with maintenance teams to plan, prioritize, and review preventive and corrective maintenance activities. Review, develop, and approve maintenance strategies, procedures, and work packages to ensure timely completion and restoration of systems.
Identify opportunities for system improvements, upgrades, and modifications.
Develop engineering change packages, ensuring all modifications meet regulatory, safety, and quality requirements.
Support implementation and commissioning of system changes.
Ensure compliance with client policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements such as CNSC. Participate in audits, inspections, and safety reviews.
Maintain accurate and comprehensive system documentation, including drawings, procedures, and records.
Prepare technical reports, event summaries, and regulatory submissions.
Identify and implement best practices to enhance system reliability, efficiency, and safety.
Qualifications
Strong understanding of engineering principles, plant systems, and equipment relevant to power generation.
Ability to analyze complex technical problems, interpret data, and develop effective solutions.
Skilled in troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.
Excellent communication skills, project management capability, and attention to detail.
Minimum 2–5 years of relevant engineering experience in power generation, utilities, or related industries.
Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Ontario is preferred, with consideration for candidates actively pursuing licensure.
