Software Engineering Manager – Marketplace Platform (Toronto, ON)
We’re looking for a Software Engineering Manager to lead two high-performing engineering teams building a large-scale digital marketplace platform used by millions of Canadians every month.
This is a hands-on leadership role where you’ll shape engineering delivery, grow strong teams, and help define how modern AI-assisted software engineering is done at scale.
🌟 What you’ll be doing
Lead, coach, and grow two engineering teams (~10 engineers total)
Own hiring, performance management, 1:1s, and career development
Drive predictable, high-quality delivery across roadmap commitments
Partner closely with Product and Design to translate business goals into technical execution
Improve platform reliability, developer experience, and operational maturity
Champion AI-assisted engineering practices across teams (LLMs, copilots, automation)
Influence architectural decisions across a high-traffic marketplace platform
🧠 What we’re looking for
We’re looking for someone who combines strong technical depth with real people leadership and product thinking.
Must-have experience:
Proven experience managing engineering teams (multiple teams or streams preferred)
Strong background in cloud and distributed systems (AWS or similar)
Full-stack exposure: React, TypeScript, Node.js / frontend + backend systems
Backend experience in Java (Spring Boot is a strong asset)
Experience working in microservices or platform-scale environments
Strong understanding of system design, scalability, and operational excellence
Hands-on experience using AI tools (ChatGPT, Copilot, Claude, etc.) in daily development workflows
Comfortable working closely with Product to challenge priorities and shape outcomes
Based in the GTA and able to work in-office ~2 days per week
⭐ Nice to have
Experience in marketplaces, classifieds, or large-scale consumer platforms
Kubernetes, Terraform, observability tools (Datadog, Prometheus, etc.)
Platform engineering or developer experience ownership
Experience driving engineering transformation or modernization initiatives

💰 Compensation
CAD $140,000 – $190,000 base salary
