Technical Writer – Expert
Location: Toronto, ON (Hybrid – 4 days in office per week)
Type: 12-month contract (extension possible)
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 37.5 hours per week (no overtime)
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Technical Writer to lead the development of business and technical documentation for large-scale initiatives. This role will create, edit, and maintain operational manuals, SOPs, job aids, user guides, and communication deliverables, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and clarity. The Technical Writer will collaborate with cross-functional teams, support change management initiatives, and oversee documentation quality from planning through delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and implement documentation plans, timelines, and deliverables.
Create and maintain technical and business documentation (SOPs, user guides, manuals, job aids).
Edit and review content to ensure accuracy, usability, and alignment with client requirements.
Support change management by documenting “as-is” and “to-be” processes.
Participate in cross-functional project teams to support IT and business process rollouts.
Oversee audits of existing documentation and recommend improvements.
Provide guidance, feedback, and training to others on writing styles and knowledge-sharing processes.
Must-Have Skills
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, English, Journalism, Business, or related field.
10+ years of technical/business writing experience.
Deep knowledge of all phases of the communication/documentation process.
Strong project management, organizational, and time management skills.
Experience supporting cross-functional project teams and large rollouts.
Expert writing, editing, and reviewing skills.
Mastery of English language structure, grammar, and composition.
Strong knowledge of knowledge-capture processes and ability to advise clients.
Quick learner with the ability to adopt new tools and techniques as required.
Nice-to-Have Skills
Certification in Technical or Business Writing.
Knowledge of financial services or banking terminology.
Familiarity with communication and dissemination techniques.
Experience with Confluence and Jira.
