Senior Data Architect (Contract Opportunity) REMOTE
Remote | Contract | Ottawa, Ontario, Canada

Federal Government Security clearance is required

We are seeking a Senior Data Architect to provide strategic direction and hands-on expertise for a Data Transformation Initiative supporting legacy data mart modernization and migration. You’ll be a key contributor in shaping and executing a comprehensive data strategy—driving technical innovation, ensuring architectural integrity, and enabling data-driven business outcomes.

What You’ll Do:

Provide technical leadership and solution direction across data and analytics teams.
Design reference architectures for capabilities such as MDM, ML/Analytics Ops, data quality, metadata management, and more.
Define enterprise data architecture standards, patterns, and guidelines.
Architect data pipelines and models supporting the modernization of legacy systems into a modern data platform (Azure).
Lead proofs of concept (PoC) and technology evaluations using a design-thinking approach.
Govern adherence to architecture standards, reviewing and approving solution designs.
Collaborate closely with data governance, cloud, integration, security, and delivery teams.
Actively manage architecture documentation, decision records, and mentor teams on implementation.
Drive DevOps/DataOps best practices, CI/CD, and agile delivery methods.
Stay ahead of trends, guiding platform evolution and business value realization.

Specific Initiative:
You will support the Legacy Data Mart Modernization, Migration & Decommissioning (LDMMD) initiative, replacing legacy marts with modern data pipelines and products on the Enterprise Data Platform (EDP).

Azure Databricks, Azure Synapse, Azure Data Factory
Denodo, Microsoft Purview
Infosphere Data Architect / ERWin / ER/Studio
Informatica MDM
Azure DevOps (Kanban/Scrum)

Must-Have Skills:
Proven success leading large-scale data transformation programs.
Deep expertise in data architecture, including modern cloud-based platforms.
Strong strategic thinking and ability to influence cross-functional teams.
Excellent communication, coaching, and leadership abilities.
Experience with CI/CD, DevOps, DataOps, ML/Analytics Ops.

Nice-to-Haves:
Project management experience
Bilingual (English & French)
Familiarity with: Power BI, SQL Server/Oracle DBMS, Azure Purview, DataStage, Azure Event Hub, Spark, SAS Viya, Cognos Analytics
DMBoK knowledge
Agile certification (e.g., PMI-ACP, DASM)
