The Payroll Specialist is responsible for payroll and benefits administration, and focuses on processing payroll using Workforce Now.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Compile, verify and submit payroll documentation and data for four companies that consist of salary and hourly (non-unionized and unionized) on weekly, biweekly and semi-monthly cycles(300+ employees)
Process special payroll amounts and retroactive pay and update systems (payroll, time& attendance, HRIS) for new hires, employee changes, transfers, terminations, etc.
Process pay rate and benefit changes according to the union CBA
Preparation and submission of third party payments (i.e. garnishments, union dues,etc.)
Prepare and distribute T2200’sannually for employment expenses
Own the administration of employee benefit, pension, TFSA and RSP plans
Administer monthly benefit billing: review, reconcile and process payments
Provide advice and act as a liaison between the benefit provider and the employee on the interpretation of the plan
Prepare and process workers compensation statements for various provinces; reconcile for yearend
T4 balancing & management, year-end summary processing
Prepare statistical and ad hoc reports for Accounting/Finance and HR as required such as headcount, department hours reports etc.
Act as the Time and Attendance System Coordinator for Canada
Be the point of contact for employees for all payroll and benefit-related items; research, investigate and resolve issues as required and respond in a timely manner
Develop, document and implement payroll procedures and ensure the appropriate internal controls and audits are in place to ensure accuracy and integrity of payroll
Participate on HRIS and Payroll projects; assist in the implementation and training of employees on new processes and systems
Provide excellent customer service support to both internal and external customers
Perform other duties as required
