What You Will Do

As a vital member of our Tax Litigation & Dispute Resolution team, you will participate in all stages of a dispute. Collaborating closely with partners, associates, paralegals, and administrative support, you will play a key role in assisting our clients through the dispute resolution process. This position is ideal for someone who thrives in a collaborative environment and possesses an interest in project management. The successful candidate will be proactive, able to identify and manage next steps, and ensure that tasks and projects remain organized and on track.

 

Assist with productions and responses to the Canada Revenue Agency, including drafting responses and preparing documentsDraft correspondence, lists of documents, affidavits, undertakings charts, transcript summaries, and various other documentsPrepare court documents, including Books of Documents, Books of Authorities, and motion materialsPrepare for meetings, discoveries, trials, and other related tasks as neededAttend and assist at discoveries, hearings, and client meetings, as requiredCommunication with clients, the Canada Revenue Agency, courts, and related partiesPerform e-Discovery tasks, including maintaining document databases, assisting with document production, completing objective coding, managing document reviews, and proposing workflowsFile management, including maintenance and organization of documents, and actively tracking deadlines, tasks, next stepsAssist with best practices and items related to the paralegal/law clerk role

What You Bring To The Role

 

In-office requirement this is a hybrid role (in-office and work from home), however client and related deadlines take priority. The successful candidate will be required to be in the office on a weekly basis, and on an ad hoc basis for file assistance and support, with the option to work from home on days where appropriate.Paralegal degree/diploma, law clerk diploma or other credentials with relevant paralegal/law clerk experience1-3 years of direct experience working in litigationKnowledge of the Tax Court, Federal Court, and Federal Court of Appeal is an asset but not requiredProficient in standard office software such as MS Word, Outlook, Excel, and AdobeStrong knowledge of e-Discovery software such as Relativity, Ringtail/Nuix, is preferredA keen interest in e-Discovery, technology, and related advancementsExcellent time management skills; ability to effectively manage conflicting requirements and prioritiesStrong communication, both written and verbalInitiative and high degree of autonomyAbility to work well both individually and as part of a teamDemonstrated ability to handle confidential information with sensitivity and discretionSelf-motivated to achieve high standards in all aspects of workClient service oriented and professional
