Contract – 3 months to start, with extensions (up to 2 years)
Job Description:
We’re hiring a Senior Mainframe Developer to join a hybrid engineering team at one of Canada’s largest financial institutions. You’ll work on mission-critical commercial banking systems, contributing to modernizing backend systems that support millions of customers.
This is a long-term opportunity with strong potential for extension and growth, ideal for experienced developers with deep COBOL expertise and a passion for clean, reliable code.
What You’ll Be Working On:
Developing and maintaining mainframe applications in COBOL, JCL, MVS, DB2
Supporting backend services that integrate with Java/cloud front-end applications
Performing code control, IST testing, and source code management (Endevor)
Working on high-impact projects like Prime Minus for business deposit systems
Collaborating in a hybrid Agile/Waterfall environment
Must-Have Skills:
✅ 10+ years Mainframe development experience
✅ Strong hands-on experience with COBOL, JCL, DB2, MVS
✅ Experience with tools like IMS, Syncsort, SAS, Comparex, Expediter
✅ Familiarity with Endevor for source code control
✅ Proven testing experience including IST (Integrated System Testing)
✅ Strong communication skills and a collaborative, adaptable mindset
Nice-to-Have:
Experience in financial services or banking systems
Ability to create and maintain technical documentation
Leadership experience with onsite/offshore teams
