Machine Learning Engineer (Contract)

Noramtec is seeking a talented Machine Learning Engineer to join our client’s growing team on a hybrid basis in Toronto, Ontario. This is an exciting opportunity to work on cutting-edge AI solutions with a focus on Natural Language Processing (NLP) and deep learning systems.
About the Role
As a Machine Learning Engineer, you’ll be responsible for creating, training, and deploying machine learning models that drive real business outcomes. You’ll work closely with data scientists, analysts, and business stakeholders to ensure models align with objectives and deliver measurable value.
Key Responsibilities
Design and implement machine learning and deep learning systems.
Develop, train, and fine-tune models, particularly leveraging transformer-based architectures like BERT.
Analyze datasets to identify meaningful relationships and trends.
Conduct data preprocessing, cleaning, and validation to ensure high data quality.
Define and implement validation strategies and feature engineering pipelines.
Optimize model performance via hyperparameter tuning and model evaluation techniques.
Identify and acquire additional data sources when necessary.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align models with business goals and track performance metrics.
Required Skills & Experience
Strong foundation in machine learning algorithms, techniques, and statistical analysis.
Expertise in Natural Language Processing (NLP), with hands-on experience in BERT and other transformer-based models.
Proficiency with deep learning frameworks such as TensorFlow or PyTorch.
Strong programming skills in Python, and familiarity with libraries like NumPy, Pandas, and Scikit-learn.
Experience in text preprocessing, tokenization, and understanding of word embeddings.
Solid knowledge of transfer learning methodologies.
Proven ability to manage resources and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
Excellent communication, problem-solving, and client relationship management skills.
Nice to Have
Experience supervising data acquisition processes.
Familiarity with identifying and leveraging publicly available datasets.
Previous experience working in a consulting or contract-based environment.
