Skills, Knowledge, Experience, and Qualifications:
A junior Data Scientist is required to support the assessment and analytics of datasets for proofs-of-concept. The general scope of work for the data scientist involves:
Assessing datasets from various ministry sources, including those involved with land-use planning, childcare, and school related data.Identifying potential gaps (e.g. inconsistencies, errors) in datasets and documenting gaps as well as steps for resolution.Identifying new datasets needed to improve analytical capabilities of a proof of concept; Developing reports in various visualization tools (e.g. GIS, Tableau, Microsoft PowerBI).Conducting historical analytics on relational datasets.Conducting predictive analytics on relational datasets.Documenting the findings at each phase of work and reporting the findings to the team.
Tools and techniques
Superior Knowledge of MS analytical products in particular Excel and data validation on Excel forms.Experience with SQL databasesExperience cleaning, transforming and joining dataExperience is creating and applying data standardsExperience with dimensional data modelsStatistical modeling using R Script and experience integrating R with Microsoft Power BI an assetExperience building visualizations in R Shiny, SAS, Python, Esri/ArcGIS, Microsoft PowerBI, and PowerViewer, Cognos an asset
Power BI and Analytics Experience
Experience developing business intelligence and various analytics resourcesExperience with cleaning, transforming, integrating, and visualizing data setsExperience understanding a data modelExperience creating interactive visuals
Communication Skills
Experience in developing documentation on data standardization and requirementsDemonstrated consulting and relationship management skills, with proven ability to elicit requirements, develop/consult on options and solutions, and provide effective guidanceStrong verbal and written communication skills; with both technical and non-technical audiencesA demonstrated team player with a track record for meeting deadlines
OPS Experience
Previous public sector experience or an organization of equivalent size and complexity to the Ontario Public Service.
MUST HAVES:
