Java Developer (Contract) – Modernization Project
📍 Halifax, NS (Onsite) | ⏳ 3-Month Contract (Extension Possible)
We’re looking for a hands-on Java Developer to help modernize a mission-critical, public-facing web application used at scale. This is a backend-heavy role with real impact—focused on upgrading legacy systems into a secure, modern, and scalable architecture.
🔧 What You’ll Do
Modernize an existing Java web application
Build and upgrade backend services using Java 21 & Spring
Work with Oracle (or similar relational databases)
Collaborate with frontend teams using React 18+
Ensure performance, security, and reliability for a live production system
Write clean, maintainable, well-documented code
✅ What We’re Looking For
Strong experience with Java & Spring Framework
Hands-on experience with enterprise or legacy system modernization
Solid relational database experience (Oracle preferred)
REST API development experience
Some exposure to React or modern frontend frameworks
Ability to work locally in Halifax, NS
Nice to have: JHipster, public sector or regulated industry experience, accessibility/security/performance initiatives
