IT Project Manager (Mainframe / Banking)
Remote, must be living in British Columbia and able to attend periodic on-site meetings.

We are seeking an experienced IT Project Manager with expertise in mainframe systems and banking projects to lead a strategic initiative aimed at modernizing legacy systems in a government environment. The objective of this project is to replace 10 aging mainframe systems with FIS’s modern Treasury Management Solution (TMS), ensuring streamlined financial management, improved automation, and better data accessibility. The project will impact multiple stakeholders, including government ministries, public sector agencies, and private sector partners.
Key Project Objectives:
Align with evolving banking industry standards and payment practices.
Improve management of citizen services and transactions for ministry program customers.
Reduce duplications and improve consistency of financial services across ministries.
Provide detailed, consistent transaction data to support better financial management across the government.
Transition from costly legacy mainframe systems to a modern, efficient architecture.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead a multi-disciplinary team through the planning, execution, and closure of the project.
Manage project scope, timelines, budgets, and risk.
Coordinate with key stakeholders across government ministries and other agencies.
Ensure the project’s objectives are met, focusing on maintaining project scope and minimizing complexity.
Provide leadership in facilitating meetings, resolving issues, and ensuring timely project delivery.
Required Skills & Experience:
Minimum 3 years of recent experience as an IT Project Manager for complex projects.
Undergraduate degree in Information Technology, Engineering, or related field
PMI Project Management Professional (PMP®) certification preferred.
Strong proficiency with project management tools (e.g., Microsoft Project).
Proven ability to manage multi-disciplinary teams and liaise with both technical and business stakeholders.
Experience in preparing project charters, plans, risk management strategies, and coordinating resources.
Demonstrated expertise in managing multi-stakeholder projects with a budget typically under $5 million.
Strong communication skills, including facilitating meetings and presenting data to senior stakeholders.
Proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel.
Additional Skills:
Experience leading and facilitating committee meetings with diverse stakeholders.
Strong problem-solving and conflict-resolution abilities to adhere to project scope, budget, and timelines.
Experience in issue resolution, particularly in cross-functional environments.
