About the job
Our client is a well-established, values-driven organization with multiple operating units and deep community roots located on Grand Manan Island, New Brunswick. They are seeking a Controller to lead the financial, administrative, and compliance functions of the business and to serve as a trusted partner to senior leadership.

 

This hands-on Controller role provides leadership across accounting, reporting, compliance, and systems, supporting operational excellence and strategic decision-making. Based on the picturesque Grand Manan Island, this opportunity offers senior-level impact alongside an exceptional work/life balance in a close-knit coastal community.

 

Key Responsibilities for the Job:

 

Lead monthly close, financial statements, P&L analysis, budgeting, forecasting, financial planning, and product costing
Manage cash flow, liquidity, financial risk, and provide actionable insights to support strategic and operational decisions
Oversee accounting operations including AR, AP, payroll, invoicing, tax compliance, and maintenance of the general ledger and internal controls
Coordinate external auditors, tax advisors, licensing, regulatory filings, export documentation, insurance, and risk management
Lead procurement and vendor management, oversee IT systems and external technology partners, and manage core administrative functions
Select, implement, and optimize accounting and ERP systems to improve reporting, data accuracy, efficiency, and support change management across the organization
Experience & Attributes for Success:

 

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA designation is strongly preferred)
Minimum 5+ years in a senior accounting or Controller-level role, ideally in a manufacturing or food processing environment
Proven experience with financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management
Strong proficiency with accounting software, ERP systems, and Excel; experience with system implementation is a plus
Hands-on knowledge of GAAP, payroll, tax compliance, and internal controls
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with the ability to translate financial data into actionable insights
Demonstrated integrity, accountability, and ability to work collaboratively across teams and business units
