Canada Life currently has an exciting opportunity for a Clinical Pharmacist. This is a hybrid role requiring 1 + days per week in the Toronto, ON or Winnipeg, MB office.

Position Overview

Prescription drug benefits are a major component to any employee benefit program. The Clinical Pharmacist will provide pharmacy expertise that will allow Canada Life to develop the best products and create the best solutions to assist our customers and deliver superior case management.

Under the guidance of the Assistant Vice President, Drug Claims Strategy, the successful candidate will join a team of pharmacists dedicated to prescription drug management. Canada Life is at the forefront of evidence-informed, private payer decision-making and has pioneered the application of this new philosophy to private drug plans. The Clinical Pharmacist is a key contributor to the development and utilization of this philosophy, providing industry-leading expertise.

The Drug Claims Strategy team at Canda Life works side-by-side with the Product Listing Agreements (PLA) Team, to support the drug plan listing decisions and PLA negotiations. The Clinical Pharmacist plays a significant role in supporting these decisions by critical appraising clinical information for Canada Life’s strategic drug products and product listing agreements.

What you will do:

 

Provide guidance on formulary development through comprehensive drug reviews.Evaluate clinical studies, guidelines and health technology assessments to make evidence-based drug listing decisions.Develop and maintain Prior Authorization criteria and protocols in collaboration with the Pharmacy Benefits team and Drug ServicesPartner with pharmacists, nurses, and physicians on our Medical Board, to provide expert opinions on case files related to drug use.Using expert drug knowledge, conduct research and analysis, environmental scans, and analysis on various drug policy topics and clearly articulate findingsAssist in the development and maintenance of reference material related to drug policy.Provide client-specific drug support and recommendationsMaintain professional competence and expertise in the pharmacy profession through the on-going review of current pharmacy and medical literature, professional continuing education as well as through contact with professional peers.

What you will bring:

 

Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy and licensed to practice in a province of CanadaMinimum 2 years related experience. Clinical practice experience in a hospital or primary care setting an asset.Formulary review/management and health technology assessment experience an assetExperience conducting critical appraisal of clinical trialsDemonstrated interpersonal skills with a variety of roles to build collaborative partnerships across function and the business.Strong critical thinking skillsEffective decision-making and documentation skillsStrong written and verbal communication skillsDrives results and contributes to change processes that improve organizational performance and creates a culture of accountability.Effective planning and organizational skills with the ability to adapt to change and perform effectively under pressureAptitude for cross-functional learning to integrate business responsibilities and priorities with prior clinical expertiseAbility to travelDue to the high profile of a number of our clients, a Federal Government Enhanced Screening is a job requirement which will involve fingerprinting and a credit check

The base salary for this position is between $74,500 – $137,900 annually. This represents base salary only and does not represent other variable compensation components of our total compensation ( i.e. annual bonus, commission etc).
