Position Title: Accountant Expert (Senior Tax Specialist or Manager)
Contract Opportunity | 6 Months | Hybrid
We are currently seeking an experienced Accountant Expert (Senior Tax Specialist or Manager) to support increased volumes and backfill needs within a tax services team. This is a contract role focused on day to day operations with the potential for extension or conversion to full time based on business needs and performance.
Start Date: ASAP
Contract Duration: 6 months
Potential Extension or FTE: Possible
Work Model: Hybrid. Three days per week in office to start, subject to change
Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Overtime: Possible during peak tax season (March and April)
What You Will Be Doing
Reporting to the Director, Tax Services, you will be responsible for managing and supporting junior team members while delivering high quality tax services for complex estate and trust accounts. This role focuses on income tax compliance, planning, and administrative functions.
Key responsibilities include:
Preparing and reviewing complex personal, estate, and trust tax returns
Managing workflow and overseeing junior staff, including training and guidance
Ensuring timely and accurate completion of complex estate and trust filings
Reviewing assessments and preparing adjustment requests, objections, and clearance certificates
Identifying post mortem and other tax planning opportunities
Acting as a technical resource for internal tax teams
Supporting special projects as assigned

Required Qualifications
3 to 5 plus years of experience in accounting or tax related roles
Post secondary degree in Accounting or equivalent
Experience preparing T1 personal returns
Experience preparing T1 terminal (final) returns
Experience preparing T3 trust and estate returns
Familiarity with graduated rate estates
Strong working knowledge of tax preparation software
Ability to conduct technical tax research
Leadership skills and experience supporting or reviewing junior staff
Nice to Have
CPA designation preferred or in progress
