Role: Senior UI/UX Performance Engineer / UX Performance Tuning Expert
Primary Skills: Angular SPA Performance, Web Vitals Optimization, Akamai CDN
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced UX Performance Tuning Expert who specializes in optimizing Angular Single Page Applications (SPA) and driving end-to-end performance using Akamai technologies. This role will own our UX performance KPIs, define measurement frameworks, drive continuous improvements, and collaborate closely with UI engineers, product owners, and Akamai administrators to ensure exceptional user experience across all digital touchpoints.
Key Responsibilities
1. UX & Front-End Performance Optimization
Lead performance tuning for Angular-based SPA, ensuring optimal rendering, responsiveness, and smooth interactions.
Optimize critical Web Vitals including:
LCP (Largest Contentful Paint)
INP (Interaction to Next Paint)
CLS (Cumulative Layout Shift)
TTI (Time to Interactive)
TTFB (Time to First Byte)
Improve SPA-specific metrics such as:
Route transition latency
Input responsiveness
Change detection efficiency
Lazy loading strategies
2. KPI Ownership & Performance Strategy
Define, track, and maintain a comprehensive UX performance KPI framework.
Build dashboards, instrumentation, and ongoing measurement using tools like:
Google Lighthouse
Chrome DevTools
WebPageTest
New Relic, Datadog, or similar APM tools
Continuously evaluate performance regressions and drive engineering squads for improvements.
3. Collaboration with Akamai Admins
Work closely with Akamai administrators to optimize CDN configurations, caching, edge logic, and delivery strategies for SPA assets.
Optimize Akamai settings including:
Caching policies
EdgeWorkers / Edge compute logic
Compression & image optimization
Pre-fetching and pre-warming strategies
4. Architecture & Code-Level Improvements
Guide Angular teams on best practices for:
Component-level optimization
Async strategies & RxJS patterns
Reducing bundle size (tree shaking, code splitting)
Resource prioritization (critical CSS, font loading, script defer/async)
Conduct performance code reviews and establish front-end performance guidelines.
5. Cross-Team Leadership
Act as the performance SME across UI, backend, infrastructure, and platform teams.
Facilitate performance workshops, root-cause investigations, and continuous improvement programs.
Provide actionable insights to product and engineering leadership.
Required Qualifications
8+ years of experience in front-end engineering, performance engineering, or UX engineering.
Deep hands-on expertise in Angular (v8+), SPA architecture, RxJS, and TypeScript.
Proven experience tuning Web Vitals and advanced front-end performance metrics.
Strong experience working with Akamai CDN, including configuration, caching, edge logic, and performance optimizations.
Expertise using performance measurement tools (Lighthouse, WebPageTest, RUM tools, APM tools).
Strong understanding of browser internals, rendering pipelines, JavaScript performance profiling, and network optimization.
Ability to own KPIs, define measurable objectives, and drive execution across engineering teams.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Akamai EdgeWorkers, Ion, or other modern edge compute solutions.
Familiarity with Core Web Vitals–driven UX design.
Knowledge of Node.js build optimizations (Webpack, Angular CLI builds).
Experience implementing RUM frameworks (Boomerang, SpeedCurve, Akamai mPulse, etc.).
Strong soft skills for cross-functional leadership and stakeholder communication.
What You Will Bring
Passion for delivering fast, smooth, and delightful user experiences.
Ability to lead performance strategy across multiple products or enterprise-scale SPAs.
