Kelly Services’ has partnered with a client in Mississauga, ON to recruit for a TEMPORARY CONTRACT ASSSIGNMENT
Role: Accounting Assistant
Contract for 3 months extendable depending on the need of business
Pay rate: $25/hour – $30/hour + 4% vacation pay
Responsibilities:
Accounts Payable (Primary Focus)
Process vendor invoices accurately and in a timely manner, ensuring proper coding and approval in accordance with company policies
Match invoices to purchase orders and receiving documents (3-way matching)
Verify invoice details, resolve discrepancies, and follow up with vendors and internal departments as needed
Prepare and process weekly/bi-weekly payment runs (cheques, ACH, EFT, wire transfers)
Maintain accurate vendor records, including W-9s, payment terms, and banking information
Respond to vendor inquiries regarding payments, invoice status, and account balances
Reconcile vendor statements and investigate variances
Ensure compliance with internal controls, tax requirements (HST/GST/PST), and audit standards
General Accounting & Financial Support
Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities, including journal entries and accruals
Perform general ledger postings, account reconciliations, and variance analysis
Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation
Assist with bank, credit card, and intercompany reconciliations
Support preparation of financial reports and schedules for management and auditors
Ensure accounting records comply with company policies and applicable accounting standards
Administrative & Process Support
Organize and maintain electronic and physical accounting files
Support audits by preparing documentation and responding to audit requests
Identify opportunities to improve AP and accounting processes for efficiency and accuracy
Collaborate with procurement, operations, and finance teams to ensure smooth financial workflows
Systems & Compliance
Enter and maintain data in accounting systems (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, Oracle, NetSuite)
Ensure adherence to internal controls, segregation of duties, and financial policies
Maintain confidentiality and data integrity at all times
Key Skills Typically Required
Strong attention to detail and accuracy
Solid understanding of accounts payable and basic accounting principles
Proficiency in MS Excel and accounting software
Time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines
Strong communication skills for vendor and internal stakeholder interaction
Requirements:
Accounts Payable processing
Exposure to general accounting / GL support
Month-end and year-end close assistance
Likely 1–3 years’ experience range
