Principal Data Scientist (GenAI / ML)

Hiring: Principal Data Scientist (GenAI / ML) – Hybrid in Toronto or Etobicoke – Pern
A newly formed leadership team is building out a world-class data science group—and they’re looking for a hands-on Principal Data Scientist to help define the future of AI at scale.
This is a senior individual contributor role for someone who wants to stay deeply technical while shaping strategy, architecture, and best practices across high-impact, customer-facing products.
What You’ll Do
Lead the design, development, and deployment of production-grade ML and GenAI solutions
Drive use cases across personalization, pricing, search, optimization, and forecasting
Architect scalable ML systems in AWS, including APIs, pipelines, and MLOps workflows
Partner closely with product and engineering to turn data into measurable business impact
Act as a senior technical authority and mentor within the data science community
Explore and integrate GenAI / LLM technologies to unlock new product capabilities
What You Bring
8+ years in data science, machine learning, or applied AI with production impact
Deep hands-on experience with GenAI / LLMs (OpenAI, Hugging Face, LangChain, vector DBs)
Strong Python & SQL, plus modern ML frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow, scikit-learn)
Proven experience deploying models via APIs and operating them at scale
Solid AWS experience and strong MLOps fundamentals
A product mindset—understanding how data drives customer value and business outcomes
